Ugly Putty File Cabinet Makeover

File Cabinet MakeoverThis file cabinet has been an eye sore for many years.  I kept threatening to get rid of the thing even though there really wasn’t anything wrong with it except for the “Ugly Putty” Color.  In reality, I needed the file cabinet and if I let this one go I would end up buying another.  It occurred to me that I had some left over spray paint from another project and the colors would coordinate with the office and workroom decor.  I now have a new and improved, functional, yet decorative file cabinet that is no longer sore on the eyes.
cabinet tableINGREDIENTS:
  • Ugly file cabinet.  Check your local Goodwill, Salvation Army and Thrift Stores.
  • Spray paint
  • Accent acrylic paints
  • Stencil
  • Pouncer Sponge or Stencil Brush
  • Screw driver to remove and replace handle hardware
EXPERIMENT:
with stencil placement.  Play with the color and practice on cardboard if you are mixing colors.   I mixed these paints together to create a bronze color & applied 3 coats to the plastic handles to change the silver tones.

I used Hammered Dark Bronze for the Drawers.

Metallic Gold Stenciled Dragonfly accents.
 NUTRITIONAL VALUE:  I
give this project 5 out of 5 dragonflies.  Spray painting made the project easy and less time consuming.  Stencils are a quick way to add interest without spending a lot of time on details.
